EU AND UK MOVE ON, SEPARATELY

SCAN0162

———————————————————-

Brexit seems to have done the opposite to what the “experts” predicted.   The United Kingdom is booming as the European Union recedes further behind in the rear-view mirror.   All the negative predictions have turned out to be wrong.

Nigel Farage, who led the Brexit campaign, was interviewed yesterday on “Varney and Company” (Fox Business News).   Stuart Varney, a 68-year-old Brit who moved to the US forty years ago, supported Brexit.   He asked Mr. Farage about the polls leading up to Brexit.   The last poll before the vote, was published the morning of the actual vote and showed a 10% lead for the “Remain” campaign. Mr. Farage claimed the hidden purpose of the poll was to discourage people from voting “Leave” – they were being told they were going to lose so what was the point of voting?

The vote was against globalization and multiculturalism.   The United  Kingdom was the first country to reject the 50-year-rush toward these twin goals.   Mr. Farage went on to encourage those in America who are against both to be sure to vote in November and not to vote for Mrs. Clinton, who is a part of the problem, not the solution.

Meanwhile, the German economy has suffered as a result of Brexit. German car companies sell 20% of their cars in the UK; other companies also rely on the British market.

Without Britain, the EU is no longer hindered in its plans to create a European Army and other military forces.   The Poles expressed the opinion that the British were holding back developments in this area.   Now the EU can move ahead.   EU countries meet in Warsaw next week to discuss further military cooperation.   Hungary and the Czech Republic today both backed the formation of an EU military force.   Hungary has been very vocal about the dangers presented by the recent surge of immigrants and resultant Islamic extremism.

On Monday, August 22nd, the leaders of Germany, Italy and France, the three biggest EU economies now that Britain is leaving, met off the Italian coast, to discuss the future of the organization. Undaunted, they plan to move ahead in forming “an ever closer union,” the commitment made when the Treaty of Rome was signed in 1957.   There will be no turning back.

What is likely to emerge is a more united Europe led by Germany.

The EU is faced with the greatest crisis of its existence with radical Islamic terrorism.   Berlin is telling its citizens they need to stock up on food and water, to have at least ten days supply in the event of an emergency.   The government is also talking of re-introducing conscription, which was abolished a few years ago.

Stuart Varney observed on his program that when he first came to America 40 years ago, the Republicans were the wealthy party that represented big business; while the Democrats fought for the little guy.   Now, it’s the other way around.   Mrs. Clinton is employing over 700 full-time personnel in her campaign, while the Republicans have 87.   Wealthy donors donate to the Democrats while Donald Trump gets $10 here and $50 there.   A fund-raiser barbecue at the home of retired basketball player Magic Johnson raised $1.3 million for Mrs. Clinton; another one in Hollywood brought in a lot more, with an admission price of $200,000 per ticket.   This means that Mrs. Clinton can show more than ten times the number of political ads on TV giving her a distinct advantage.

With all the accusations made by the Democrats that Republicans are “racist,” it’s clear the former are ignorant of history.   The Republican Party was formed specifically to end slavery; the Democrats were the pro-slavery party.   As such, for decades whites in the Deep South voted for the Democratic Party and blacks for the Republicans.

Race continues to be a factor in elections – at every presidential election, once every four years, the white population has declined by a further 1%, giving the Democrats a distinct advantage.   This is because of Senator Edward Kennedy’s 1965 Immigration Act, which has encouraged immigration from Third World countries.   An estimated 70% of immigrants vote for the Democrats.   No wonder they want to keep the borders open and fast-track illegal aliens into citizenship.   They’re on to a good thing.

A MORE MODERATE ISLAMIC VOICE

The Muslim King of Morocco is clearly more enlightened than some leaders in the Middle East.   Note the following address on television following terrorist incidents in Europe perpetrated by people of North African origin:

In an address directed toward Moroccans living abroad, Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco, said that they should “always be among the first to defend peace, harmony, and coexistence in their countries of residence.” Calling the killing of a priest in his church “unforgivable,” Mohammed VI said that the Jihadists are “led by ignorance” and are “destined to dwell in Hell for all eternity.” “Can anyone of sound mind believe that the reward for Jihad could be some virgins in Paradise?” he asked in the address, which was broadcast by Morocco’s Channel 1 on August 20.   (MEMRI)

Western countries continue to compromise with Islam.   The Canadian government is to allow the wearing of the hijab by Muslim Mounties, members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.   In France, the government announced a ban on Muslim beachwear, but a French court has decided otherwise.

ON IMMIGRATION INTO AMERICA

“We turn away astrophysicists in order to make room for illiterate Afghan peasants who will drop out of high school to man coffee carts until deciding to engage in jihad against us.” (Ann Coulter, “Adios, America!”)

CLINTON FOUNDATION

New emails uncovered via Freedom of Information Act lawsuits “suggest why the Clinton Foundation could be so attractive to the rich and mighty,” writes our columnist William McGurn.  “When a donor had a problem that required the secretary of state’s attention” – or when a meeting was denied through “normal” channels – there was the foundation to contact Hillary Clinton’s top staffers at the State Department.   In too many cases, government doors then swung open for the donors.  (WSJ  8/22)

Also of interest:   Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s top adviser and close personal friend, an Iranian Muslim, turns out to have edited a radical Islamic publication before becoming the most influential Muslim in the country.   She is 40 years old and is the Vice-Chairperson for the Clinton election campaign.

CLUELESS

The Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, tried to discourage Muslim Australian youth from joining ISIS.   It meant “almost certain death” said the PM.

Isn’t that the idea?!?   They won’t get those 72 virgins in paradise without dying first . . . !

INTERESTING STATISTIC

One third of British policemen are now armed.   Last year, they collectively fired a grand total of seven rounds.

I will not comment further.

TEN YEARS AFTER 7/7

7:7 remembrance service

A Service of Remembrance was held in London’s St. Paul’s Cathedral today, to commemorate 7/7, England’s 9/11.   It came just eleven days after another terrorist attack in Tunisia claimed the lives of thirty British tourists.

Ten years ago exactly, 52 people were killed when four home grown Islamic terrorists blew up three subway trains and one bus.   Dozens more suffered life-changing injuries.

At times, the service was deeply moving.   In attendance were Prince Andrew, the Prime Minister David Cameron and his predecessor, Tony Blair, who was prime minister when the attacks took place, together with his wife, Cherie.   Family members of the deceased filled the great church, built in the late seventeenth century following the Great Fire of London.

London is, arguably, the most multicultural city in the world.   The deceased were drawn from different cultures and different religions.   The perpetrators of the atrocities were all Muslims, born in England, and all from fairly affluent backgrounds.   Their actions were not motivated by poverty or lack of opportunity.

The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, pointed out, that:  “the majority of the victims were young, they came from all over the UK and all over the world. There were Jews, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Buddhists and Humanists . . . London is an astonishing world in a city, but beyond the diversity… this was a terrible crime that robbed us of family and friends.”

He continued:  “Our London is a laboratory for testing whether it will be possible for the cosmopolitan civilization, which is becoming a global reality, to hold together.”

“We are in the midst of a debate about identity, including what it means to be British.   Some in the world are reacting to change by retreating into ever narrower definitions of their identity.   At the same time, merely invoking the universal concepts of tolerance and respect, with which we probably all agree, does not generate one iota of the energy required to transform lives and to build a community.   We cannot exorcise the Satanic by creating a spiritual vacuum.”

The Bishop’s comments were thought-provoking.   Some might disagree with some of what he said.

He talked of our “cosmopolitan civilization, which is becoming a global reality,” when, in truth, it really isn’t.   The suicide bombings that were being commemorated were the acts of second generation Muslims.  The countries their families came from are not cosmopolitan.   They do not allow westerners into their countries except on short-term contracts – they certainly cannot settle and become citizens no matter how long they stay.   Britain and other western nations allow immigration from the Middle East and grant citizenship, thereby encouraging a cosmopolitan society, which clearly has its challenges, when young citizens, far from appreciating the country their parents moved to, instead try to kill as many of their fellow citizens as possible.

He also talked of the “universal concepts of tolerance and respect.”   Sadly, these are not universal concepts.  They are concepts that developed over time in Protestant countries, when the proliferation of different sects necessitated learning to live peaceably alongside each other.   They are western concepts.   They do not even extend to Eastern Europe, let alone to China, Russia or even Japan.

The bishop’s remarks highlight the great gulf that exists between the West and the Rest.   Multiculturalism is largely one-sided, with people in the West having to bend over backwards to accommodate other cultures that have moved into their territory and are now demanding they get their own way.   And, when they don’t, they will blow other people up to make a point.

It’s not surprising that a BBC straw poll taken on Saturday, found that 95% of British people say that multiculturalism is not working.

Further, today’s British papers quote the ex-head of British Counter-terror as suggesting that it’s time for the British government to provide charter flights to Syria, encouraging homegrown jihadists to fly out and join ISIS, after surrendering their passports.   This is, finally, recognition that many Muslims in their midst will never show the tolerance and respect that living in Britain requires.

THREE TERROR ATTACKS ON THREE CONTINENTS IN 90 MINUTES

3 terrorist attacks map

From BBC WORLD NEWS, Friday June 26th

“Today has seen three major terrorist attacks all by jihadists and spread across three continents.

“In Kuwait the attack was sectarian – Sunni extremists from Islamic State targeting a Shia mosque. They are hoping to turn these two sects of Islam against each other.  It follows similar mosque bombings by IS across Saudi Arabia.  In France assailants went for a double target.  The chemical factory was owned by a US company but also targeted was the French state and an individual businessman.  IS is at war with France and has often called for opportunist attacks by its followers there.  And in Tunisia western tourists have once again been hit for the second time this year.  Here, too, though, the jihadists are hoping to hurt the country itself, trying to stop Tunisia from becoming a peaceful secular democracy.  But why now?  Is there any reason why all three attacks are taking place during this month of Ramadan? “ – Frank Gardiner, Security Correspondent, BBC

There followed a brief interview with Maajid Nawaz, Chairman of the Quilliam Foundation: “For ISIS, Ramadan is a month of war.  They believe it to be the month of jihad.”

“I’m afraid we’re in for more days like this . . . Ramadan should be a time of calamity for the infidels. They include the Shia as well.”   James Woolsey, Former Director of Central Intelligence.

Ramadan continues until July 17th.

WHAT IF THE PRESIDENT IS WRONG?

Obama Islam not the enemy

US President Barack Obama says the US is “not at war with Islam – we are at war with the people who have perverted Islam.”   (BBC website, February 18th)

The President continued to explain that socio-economic factors are behind extremist terrorism.   If more could be done to help young people in the Mideast find jobs, it would lessen the terror threat.   However, this conveniently overlooks the fact that major terrorist attacks have been perpetrated by affluent jihadists.   The idea that it’s all due to poverty and unemployment is a throwback to sixties liberalism.   Unfortunately, millions of people still think that way, endangering the rest of us.

This comes at a time when ISIS is wiping out Christians across the Middle East, determined to establish “Christian free zones.”

For an alternative view, let’s do something few politicians ever seem to do – look at history.

Muhammed died in 632 AD.   At the time of his death, the new religion he started was confined to the Arabian Peninsula.   By the end of the seventh century it had conquered the whole of North Africa and a great deal of the Middle East, including Jerusalem, Damascus and Antioch, pushing back the Byzantine and Persian empires.   Of course, it’s always possible that the young soldiers of Allah went far afield simply looking for jobs, but that’s not a conclusion you will find in the history books.

Once they had conquered North Africa, they crossed over into Europe, taking over the Iberian Peninsula and remaining there for a few hundred years, ruling what are now Spain and Portugal.   In 732 they reached the gates of Paris but were halted in their tracks by a military force led by Charles Martel, the grandfather of Charlemagne.   If this decisive victory had not taken place, there would be no problem between the West and Islam today, as we would all be Muslims!

Move forward 350 years.   By the end of the eleventh century, the Turks were a serious threat to the Byzantine Empire.   In 1065, the Turks took control of Jerusalem and massacred 3,000 Christians. Prior to the Turkish invasion, the Saracens controlled the area.   They had allowed Christian pilgrims to visit the Holy Land.   But the Turks made it impossible.   In 1095, Pope Urban II called on the countries of Catholic Europe to launch a Crusade against the Muslim Turks.   A series of crusades followed until 1291, when the Christians gave up on the idea of ruling the region.   It wasn’t until 1917 that a Christian power, Great Britain, would once again dominate the Middle East.

Islam continued its expansionist course, gradually taking more and more territory from what was left of the Eastern Roman Empire.   In 1453, its capital, Constantinople, fell to the Muslim Turks.   They have controlled it since.

Having conquered the Balkans, the Ottoman Turks twice reached the gates of Vienna at the very center of Europe.   Central European nations and the Catholic

Church defeated the Muslims, saving Europe from Islam.

This is not to say there has been peace between the West and Islam ever since.   During the period of global British domination, the British fought Islamic extremists in the Sudan in the 1880’s and 90’s, culminating in the battle of Omdurman in September, 1898.

For much of the twentieth century, Islam was kept at bay.  Until World War II, most Islamic territory was under European colonial rule.   By 1960 this had come to an end.   Iran, modern Persia, was the first country to see its government overthrown by radical Islam, in 1979.   From that date until the present, the West has been under constant threat from Islam, both Shia Islam (Iran) and Sunni Islam (al Qaeda, ISIS and Boko Haram to name just three).

With such a long history of Islamic imperialism, how can the president claim that the religion has been perverted by violent extremists?   Islam has been a constant threat to the West since its birth in the early part of the seventh century.  If anything, the first part of the twentieth century was an aberration, a brief interlude during which Islam was not pushing against the West.

“The rise and expansion of Islam was one of the most significant and far-reaching events in modern history and its impact continues to reverberate in our own times.”  (“The spread of Islam from 632,” Collins Atlas of World History, 2003)

Echoing down the centuries, the following statement remains true today.  “This expansion owed much to the enthusiasm and religious conviction of the conquerors but it was also facilitated by the war-weariness of the empires of Persia and Byzantium.”  (“The Spread of Islam”)   Today’s zealots are equally motivated, while the nations of the West, after more than a decade of wars in Islamic lands, are war-weary and clearly in denial about the serious threat to western civilization.

When you look back at history, the threat is clear.   In fact, it’s a greater threat now than it’s ever been, simply because there are so many millions of Muslims in our midst already.   Which brings us back to our politicians.   President Obama is not the only western leader saying that Islam has been perverted by extremists. Following the attacks in Denmark last weekend, the Danish prime minister said much the same thing.   The British, German and French leaders have expressed similar sentiments.

Because there are so many Muslims living amongst us today, politicians dare not risk upsetting them.   They need their votes.   A significant number of constituencies in the United Kingdom, for example, have very large Muslim populations, which could determine the outcome of the election scheduled in May.

The threat should be clear to anyone.   Western nations are asleep. But sleep does not last forever.   Eventually, it will be time to wake up.

Islam has been pushing against the West for centuries.   In modern times, the push of radical Islam has been going on since the fall of the Shah in 1979, half a lifetime ago.   When will the “King of the North” arise to fight back?

JAMES FOLEY’S BEHEADING

James Foley beheading

I’ve started watching “Civilization,” a 1967 TV series which was a personal look at the history of western civilization by Kenneth Clark, who died in 1983. I remember watching it when it was originally shown. It’s good to see it again.

In the first episode, Lord Clark talked about how the barbarians destroyed Rome. They came in waves over the course of centuries. The last barbarian invasion was by Muslims in the seventh and eighth centuries.

Now, in 1967 Lord Clark could get away with describing the Muslims as barbarians. Today, he would be prosecuted for failing to be politically correct. He should rather have described the Muslims as people of an equally valid but different faith, or words to that effect.

But, if he were alive and able to watch the news today, I think he would still be tempted to use the word “barbarians.”

After the beheading of US journalist James Foley, what other term can be used?

In the western media, there is concern to arrest the man responsible, as if only one person would do such a thing. This was not an act of an individual; this is a movement, which is gaining ground. As a BBC reporter put it tonight: IS (Islamic State) is “the fastest growing terrorist entity of our time.” Their dream is to reestablish the Caliphate that ruled the Islamic world immediately after the death of Mohammed and continued until the fall of the Ottoman Empire 90 years ago. At its height the Caliphate ruled the Arab world, North Africa and the Balkans right up to the gates of Vienna.

Interviews on the streets of London show considerable support amongst British Muslims for the Caliphate. There is great disillusionment with the western way of life. Young UK jihadists operating in Syria and Iraq speak enthusiastically of beheading infidels while in the same conversation lamenting how much they miss certain British television programs and M&M’s!

It remains to be seen whether IS is fulfilling the prophecy of the first and second horsemen, depicted in Revelation 6. “ . . . I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer . . . Another horse, fiery red, went out. And it was granted to the one who sat on it to take peace from the earth, and that people should kill one another; and there was given to him a great sword.” (verses 1 – 4)  Famine and pestilence follow.

When asked by His disciples what would be the sign of His coming, Jesus Christ warned first of false religion (Matt 24:5). IS certainly fits that description. Islam itself is a false religion, in spite of what multiculturalists have been saying for forty years. IS is the most extreme form of Islam, totally intolerant of other faiths.

The so-called Caliphate already controls a territory the size of Pennsylvania, surrounded by other Arab territories and Iran. The West will not continue to bomb them indefinitely, at which point they will expand and conquer a bigger area.

They know they cannot defeat the West without direct attacks upon western targets.   When the American and British jihadists return to their homelands, they will likely continue with suicide bombings and street beheadings (remember Lee Rigby), striking fear into westerners who have never seen anything like it.

The beheading yesterday of James Foley was the first direct blow against America.   Others will certainly follow.

This could turn out to be the greatest threat ever to the US, UK, and other western nations.
